Pump Controls Table
| The recommended control arrangement for VSS pumps is the Submers-a-bulb Controller (see Type SBS) which includes on-off mercury bulbs, high water alarm and automatic alternation for duplex units. Float switch controls are also available. |
TYPE VSS SUBMERSIBLE SEWAGE PUMPS
TYPE SBS SUBMERS-A-BULB CONTROLLER
TYPICAL DUPLEX INSTALLATION
DRWG. NO. 229.11B
A: Type VSS submersible sewage pumps.
B: Blocks (If pit depth permits).
C: Discharge pipe (by others). Use flanged fittings. Install check valve and gate valve in each discharge line, on a 45 degree angle if possible. Discharge pipe may come up thru the pit cover or may leave the pit under the cover (thru the pit wall).
D: Inlet. Shoud be away from the control bulbs.
E: Vent to atmosphere. May be thru the pit cover or thru the pit wall.
F: Floor or ground level.
G: Pit cover (steel) and grouting frame (steel).
J: Control panel (includes disconnect switches, magnetic starters, control circuitry and alarm).Panel should be in sight of the pump pit and no more than 50 feet from the pit.
M: Electric service line. At start-up, switch leads to insure correct pump rotation.
N: Pit or basin. Concrete pit shown in drawing. May also be steel or fiberglass. Should be deep enough to permit proper pumping cycle without pumping down below the top of the motors.
P: Junction box. Install above floor level, if possible. Wire the motors and the bulbs directly to the control panel and delete the junction box, if possible.
Q: Submers-a-bulb suspension bracket.
R: 'High water alarm' bulb. Set approximately 6 inches below inlet.
S: 'Pump no. 2 on' bulb.
T: 'Pump no. 1 on' bulb.
U: 'Both pumps off' bulb. Set no lower than top of motors.
V: Power cables.
